AI for Food Safety Conference (AIFS) 2027

The AI for Food Safety Conference (AIFS) brings together researchers, data scientists, food safety professionals, regulators, and industry innovators at the forefront of artificial intelligence in food safety.

AIFS is dedicated to methodological advancements and applications of AI to enhance detection, prevention, automation, and risk assessment across the food system. The conference serves as a platform to exchange cutting-edge research, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and build a strong international community focused on safe food systems.

Food safety challenges are increasingly complex, data-rich, and global. Artificial intelligence provides unprecedented opportunities for:

  • Earlier contamination detection
  • More accurate risk prediction
  • Improved automation and surveillance
  • Stronger preventive strategies

AIFS creates a dedicated forum to explore these opportunities and to shape the future of AI-driven food safety research.

Speakers

Rens van de Schoot

Prof. Dr. Rens van de Schoot

Utrecht University; FwdFaster

Prof. Dr. Rens van de Schoot is a part-time Full Professor of Collaborative Methods in AI and Data Science at Utrecht University. As Director of the AI-Lab on AI-Aided Knowledge Discovery, he focuses on fundamental AI issues, including optimizing language models through domain-specific hyperparameter tuning, comparing AI-induced bias with human bias, and optimizing high-stakes workflows for systematic reviews. He also coordinates the open-source ASReview project, which is maintained via a VICI grant, two NWA-ORC grants, the Surf Research Cloud, and a global community of volunteers. Furthermore, Rens van de Schoot is Co-Founder and Partner at the FwdFaster AI Group, a Science Venture established in partnership with Utrecht University to bridge the gap between science and practice. They empower experts by helping organizations, such as the WHO and industry partners like Philips, to internally validate and fine-tune AI pipelines so they are capable, effective, and trustworthy. FwdFaster also serves as a hub for managing large-scale EU research consortia (IHIs and Horizons), including the Hospital@Home and GENeCITY projects.
